The first children’s playground in Westhills celebrated its Grand Opening this past Sunday, June 10th. With over 600 visitors over the afternoon, Westhills served up hotdogs BBQ-ed by West Shore Rotary and supplied by Glenwood Meats, provided lemonade and water for sipping, had the tunes going and even hosted a special guest star – SPIDERMAN!
This playground, the first of two, was designed specifically for children ages 5-12 years old and features elements to foster dexterity and development, with plenty of room to run around. The second playground, expected to be built later this year, is designed for children 2-5 years old and will feature a specialized recycled rubber ground surface for additional safety.
The park also features a gazebo, built from cedar that was harvested and milled from trees within the Westhills community. A large grass area provides a play zone for picnics, kicking the ball around or throwing a Frisbee. The new park and added green space is a welcome addition to the increasingly family focused community.
A BIG thanks to all of the friends and family that made it out to the Grand Opening! A special ribbon cutting ceremony took place, where the Mayor of Langford, Stewart Young, and City of Langford Councilor’s spoke to the importance of providing live and play spaces like Westhills.
If you haven’t visited the playground yet, come on down and check it out. It was built to impress and the young ones that attended the Grand Opening were certainly satisfied!
